Stacey Hallal (She/her)

Artistic Director & Board Member

Stacey founded Curious in 2008 – establishing the organization as well as acquiring and building out the space. She has served as Artistic Director ever since. She also served as Board Chair from 2008-2013. Stacey works closely with the Board, its committees, the Managing Director and the staff to develop and implement the theater’s five year strategic plan. Artistically, she is responsible for working with the theater’s teachers, performers, producers and tech team to develop the artistic voice of the theater’s classes, shows and outreach programs to ensure fulfillment of our mission and artistic satisfaction for performers, students and our audience.

Skelly Harrington (They/them) headshot

Skelly Harrington (They/them)

Director of Education, Community, and DEI

Skelly and Improv Comedy met in 2010 at a small intro class. Since then, Skel has performed short form and long form in states across the USA, improvising on formats based on everything from card games to Ken Burns documentaries. They are the creator and producer of such shows as The Gauntlet, Dropped Notes, Cheeky Shorts, and more. Their improv superpowers are all-out-enthusiasm, whimsical goofitude, and musical improv (which is their very favorite both to perform, teach, and produce.) They believe in improv as a craft that helps us bring out the best in ourselves, celebrate one another, and make the world a better place with new and better stories—together.

When not at Curious, Skel lives in a house at the end of a rainbow sidewalk, that they share with their chosen family and a much-aggrieved black sphynx named ’Mo. They also illustrate the series “Little Dudes Have Feelings” which can be found online at skellyharrington.com, and are the author of the horror fantasy series “The Willful Instruments” at https://www.sooliebeetch.com/

Blake Wales (he/him) headshot

Blake Wales (he/him)

Director of Youth and Family Programs

Blake (he/him) started his improv journey at the age of 15 as a student and performer. He has since gone on to coach various troupes and teams in Portland, OR, Denver, CO, Los Angeles, CA, and NYC. Blake received his B.F.A. in Acting from Adelphi University and holds a degree in Classical Acting from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts. Blake was a resident artist with the New York Deaf Theater and is a proud member of SAG/AFTRA. He has worked as a teaching artist/arts administrator for the past 14 years with arts organizations across the globe (Tanghalang Pilipino, Integrating Art, ArtsInsideOut, ArtsIgnite, PEAK Acting Studios, Portland State University), and more. He served as the Director of Education at Oregon Children’s Theater for five years prior to starting at Curious Comedy Theater. Blake firmly believes in supporting people in their journey of finding their creative voice. He loves being a Dad, running, and supporting Liverpool FC.

Rikki Gee (any pronouns)

Front of House Director

Overseeing the guest experience at Curious Comedy Theater, Rikki handles everything from supervising the Box Office and Bar staff to restocking the bathrooms. She also connects with our community by arranging donations and coordinating volunteers. Proving that she can behave in a family-friendly manner when it’s called for, she is a co-producer of Curious Playground. Outside of Curious (and sometimes inside it), Rikki is a much in-demand emcee, and is the founder of and a partner in G*Wiz Creative – an agency providing consulting, copy writing, audio production, and voice over to a broad range of clients. It is under this banner that Rikki has served as a theatrical producer and director, sound designer, and production manager. And, yeah, she’s been known to do some performing, too.

Philip Gordon (he/him

Technical Director

Philip has been making art most of his life, in some form or another. With a degree in music composition and a resume filled with musical theatre performance credits, Philip is also a published cartoonist, a wicked impressionist, and – as a partner in G*Wiz Creative – specializes in character voice overs and ridiculously complicated and impressive audio productions. He’s usually in the rafters at Curious Comedy Theater, running lights and sound for shows, plus supervising and training others to do the same; he’s also the first one we call when something breaks – even if it’s not the lights or sound.

FAQ

Your calendar says there are two shows happening at the same time. How can that be?

We have two venues in the same building. We have the Curious Main Stage which is a cabaret style venue (with tables and chairs), a full bar and food options. We also have the Annex Theater which is an intimate white box theater with beer, wine, and snacks available.

Are your venues all ages?

Yes! Both of our venues are all ages! However, not all of our shows are family friendly. We estimate that most of our shows are similar to a film rating of PG-13. We use some adult language and adult themes, but no nudity, graphic violence, etc. So, it's up to you!

Do you have parking?

There is ample parking at and around the theater. We have a parking lot in back of the building that you can access from either Emerson or Sumner street. There is also a lot of street parking on MLK and the side streets around us.

Do you have food and drink?

The Main Stage venue has a full bar and food.

The Annex has beer, wine, cider, and snacks.

Where can I find venue accessibility information?

Click HERE or select 'Venue Accessibility' from the website menu.

Can you accommodate groups?

Yes! We can! If you would like us to reserve a table for you, please email info@curiouscomedy.org to make arrangements.
