This weekend, after taking in the Neutrino Project’s latest, improvised, made-while-you-watch movie, catch Improsia. One ticket gets you into both shows (just check the schedule).

Improsia is one of Seattle’s most respected improv troupes. Founded in 1998, Improsia has performed around the country, for years being the only representative of Seattle in the national improv circuit. The group has taken many forms until settling down into a three person long form show. Joel Dale is the co-founder of Improsia and Seattle Neutrino Project. Andrew McMasters is the co-founder of Jet City Improv and Wing-It Productions. Douglas Willott is the developer of the smash hit Election Show. Together they have one collective goal, engage the audience’s minds one hundred percent. An Improsia performance is comedic, dramatic, and intelligent. Performing their original show format “v3″, Improsia stunned their sold out audience at the Chicago Improv Festival with a darkly comedic show about how divorce affects families. Fellow improvisors declared that they had never seen anything like it before while other audience members stated that it was the kind of show that they would keep talking about, discovering new things as they peeled back the layers. That is the goal, fully engage the audience.

About the show format “v3″:

v3 is recognized by the following qualities: the story revolves around a simple central idea, character or plot line. For the sake of storytelling, the actors can switch characters and locations whenever needed, meaning transitions between places and people in the story are seamless. Also, the characters are not tied to any one actor and can be played by any performer at any time.

v3 was developed as a response to the idea that much as a scripted work goes through iterations to focus only on the most engaging sections, an improvised show can recognize which element is most interesting and move to that. The end result being a whirling and active show that focuses on a set of people, how they are related to each other, and how they relate to each other.

That is all technical, from an audience perspective v3 is ultimately about people:who people are, what makes them tick, how they relate to one another.

The Cast:

It’s Gay Pride time and that’s my favorite part of the year! Then there’s stand-up comedy, my other favorite thing! Then there’s fundraising, a third favorite thing! So I said “Hey you, why don’t you have a comedy show with a couple of cool comics from the far reaches of the country during Pride, and have it benefit a good cause?” and I said “Man, you’re a genius, that’s a great idea!” Then I bought myself a drink.

ENTER- Comedy Curious? (that’s OK, we all were once) at the Curious Comedy Theatre!

Kelli Dunham- New York City, Fresh Fruit award-winning stand up comic Kelli Dunham (kellidunham.com) is the also the author of four humorous non-fiction books, a frequent contributor to Curve Magazine and has appeared nationwide at colleges, clubs, women’s festivals, and pride celebrations and on both Showtime and the Discovery Network and even (once) at a livestock auction. She is the co-founder of Queer Memoir, the NYC based LGBT storysharing event, and has two comedy CDs “I am NOT a 12 Year Old Boy” and “Almost Pretty” in regular rotation on Sirius Satellite Radio’s Raw Dog station. She fills me with both inspiration, and a vague feeling of shame with the sense that I am lazy and unaccomplished.

Holly Lorka -Austin, Texas is naughty and nice, sweet and sour, and likes BBQ with her porn. and has performed for Ladies Are Funny Festival and the Out Of Bounds Comedy Festival. She has been lauded by L-style/G-style and Lez-Go Magazine. She’s also a current semi-finalist in Austin’s Funniest Person contest. Holly is also is a regular performer for Austin HRC, and has headlined the Austin GLBT Pride Festival. (She also has the best hair I’ve ever seen and is one of the funniest people I know.)

Belinda Carroll- Portland, Oregon. In a over-the-top, observational style, Belinda tackles everything from her Televangelist loving mother, her life as a teenage Lesbian Avenger, to her current incarnation as a fabulous femme lesbian who missed her calling as Rupaul. She has headlined the Austin GLBT Pride festival, has promoted and produced shows from Austin, Texas to Portland, Oregon, preformed all over the country and is a regular contributing writer for Curve Magazine, OurBigGayborhood and GAY! E-magazine.

Jessica Halem- called “BRAVE and BAWDY” by Time Out Chicago, was raised by hippie Jewish artists from the East Coast which was anything but normal – or easy – in small town Ohio. But it did help to foster this very funny “on-your-face” comic who puts her queer spin on Sudafed, sexual politics, and glory holes.

Hosted by the incomparable Whitney Streed.

Laughter Against The Machine (LATM) is coming to Curious Thursday, June 17. LATM is not just a show, it’s a band…of comedians. It is a band that is strengthened by the diversity of the comedians’ opinions, ethnicity, and upbringing. Welcome to a comedy show where the comics may (among other lighthearted topics) vivisect the very notion of post-racial America, AND attack the corruption and decadence of late-imperial America, AND provide an historical context for the mess we’re in, AND make jokes about it. Very, very funny jokes.

In Jean Louis’ hilarious and beautiful comedy, Tandem, Stacey Hallal and Bob Ladewig explore the meaning of “international language” through brilliantly crafted sketch comedy – ultimately finding that two wrongs can make a right… though they often take three lefts to get there.

Stacey Hallal is Artistic Director of Curious Comedy Theater which she founded in 2007. Stacey has performed, taught, and directed improv and sketch comedy for over 10 years – in Portland with acclaimed comedy duo All Jane No Dick and in Chicago at the world famous Second City.

Her one-woman show, The Humperdink Family Reunion received rave reviews. Bob Hicks of the Oregonian wrote, “Comic actress Stacey Hallal has a face that can rise like a puff pastry or fall like a mob informer with an anvil tied round his feet. Her eyes can pop like a Looney Toons critters, and she can stretch a grin as crazy-wide as Jack Nicholson’s in The Shining. Her voice has the same cockeyed flexibility, and she uses both to highly amusing effect. In other words, she’s a genuine talent.”

Bob Ladewig has been writing, teaching and performing improvisational and sketch comedy since 1997. Bob studied at all the famous comedy theaters in Chicago and worked with a lot of wonderful people, some of whom have gone and gotten famous. In 2007, he helped to open the Curious Comedy Theater. Off-stage Bob has written stories for video games and been in many commercials – even one with an ancient Egyptian pharaoh.

SPECIAL OFFER: Check out AuGi’s show SexyNurd, and see Jean Louis free.
